This study assessed the level of women participation in arable crop production in Okigwe Agricultural Zone of Imo State, Nigeria. Data were collected with the aid of structured questionnaires administered to 60 randomly selected respondents from the six Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the zone. Results showed that farmwomen were cultivating maize, cassava and cocoyam mostly and participated fully in various farm operations. In addition, results showed that these women were not consulted in most decisions taking in the production of these crops. The study recommends total involvement of these women in decisions that have to do with crop production. Keywords: Arable crop, farming, women, agricultural policy, Nigeria International Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences, 6(4): 488 - 492, 2010 |
