Patients with a negative epidemiological triage had an overall shorter length of stay and waited less for a physical examination than in the control period. The most likely culprit is the overall decrease in patient visits, particularly of less acute triage categories. The intolerably long length of stay for patients with a suspicion of SARS- CoV-2 was primarily due to long waiting times for PCR results. These results indicate the need for either increasing testing capacity or implementation of reliable rapid tests into hospital admission algorithms as soon as possible, particularly during pandemics. |
