Introduction: Judo is a martial art and competitive sport conducted through 7 weight categories within which competitors may vary in certain anthropometrical measures, i.e. body height, arm length, or else. Several research studies confirmed significant influence of morphological features (Sertić, 1993., Drviš, 1996.), psychomotor coordination (Sertić, Vuleta, 1997., Sertić, 1997.), and technical efficiency grade (Cvetković, Lucić, 1990., Sertić 2000.) on performance in judo bout. The goal of the paper is to determine the magnitude of actual influence of the mentioned variables (anthropological features and technical knowledge) on outcome of a judo bout. Material and Methods: The sample consisited of 100 kinesiology students, aged 18-19yrs., divided into three weight categories (-73, - 81, +81kg). The sample of predictor variables consisted of: a technique performance efficiency grade (GRADE), a psychomotor coordination test (COORDN), four anthropometrical measures: body height/leg length (BH/LL), body height/body weight (BH/BW), balast mass (BALAST), as a sum of skinfolds and the measure obtained as the sum of biacromial width and two arm lengths (ARASPN). The criterion variable was a total performance grade from four judo bouts (PERFORMANCE) obtained by grading victory with 2 points, tie with 1 point, and defeat with 0 points. Results: The results of regression analysis indicate significant influence of the set of selected variables (30 % of common variance) on the outcome of a judo bout with the greatest influence of the variable technique performance efficiency grade (GRADE). Discussion: It seems as if the technique performance efficiency grade (GRADE) incorporated the influence of all the other variables, thus indirectly influencing performance in a bout. Psychomotor coordination and anthropological features are highly correlated with technical proficiency. The subjects with higher scores in coordination tests performed better in bouts. Conclusions: On the sample of 100 kinesiology students the influence of 6 predictor variables was determined. Statistically significant correlation was obtained where the most significant was judo technique performance efficiency grade. |
