Wool is a natural and easy available, renewable raw material with exceptional properties: sorption (water absorption and retention, acoustic and radiation absorption) ; thermoregulation ; biocompatibility ; elasticity ; felting ; amphoteric ; fire resistant etc. That was an encouragement to consider possibilities of wool as a soil conditioner in gardening. The addition of wool in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) gardening, i.e. the cultivation of bean in organic soil with raw (greasy) wool, wool and organic soil without wool was examined. The efficiency of wool addition in plant growing and quality of soil water extract were investigated. Additionally, as an improvement of achieved properties of bean growing quality, the content of some metals in the examined soil and bean leafs were investigated. Organic soil with raw (greasy) wool shows the best results in plant growing, i.e. the best growth (plant height and plant development). It can be related with the best nutritive actions and moisture management and with good climate control for plant growth. Since raw (greasy) wool has shown to be more efficient than wool, ecological and economic benefits of the application were additionally achieved |
