Popis: Cu-6Sn bronze is a copper alloy, wear- resistant, well solderable, corrosion resistant in various environments and good for cold forming. Thus, its application is wide. When exposed to atmosphere a thin greenish film of corrosion products, called patina, is formed on bronze. The patina is decorative, but also protects the bronze. This is another reason it is often used in civil engineering, for rooftops, and by artists for sculptures. Such bronze objects are often exposed to urban atmospheres. Due to increased environmental pollution, especially occurrence of acid rain, bronze objects dissolve with time. The aim of this research is to experimentally determine the impact of polluted urban atmosphere on the corrosion of bronze, and to explore the possibility of applying a corrosion inhibitor to protect it. A polluted urban atmosphere in the experiments is simulated with a Na2SO4 + NaHCO3 solution at pH 3. The investigated inhibitor is 2- mercaptobenzimidazole. Corrosion of bronze and its inhibition were examined by polarization methods and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
