Brush- or Pirkle– type chiral stationary phases (CSPs) are the most widely researched and are available in number of commercial high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) columns. These CSPs contain a low-molecular weight chiral selector covalently bound to the silica gel surface. CSPs interact with enantiomers to form short-lived, transient diastereomeric complexes. Chiral recognition refers to the ability of the CSPs to interact differently with two enantiomers by combination of aromatic π -π interactions, hydrogen bonding, steric interaction, dipole stacking, etc. Here will be presented on preparation and evaluation of CSPs of general structure CSP I that contain 3, 5-dinitrobenzoyl group (DNB) placed at specific site of chiral selector. DNB as markedly π -deficient group possesses excellent properties for realization of π -π interactions and is often used in preparation of chiral selectors. Hence a large number of different racemates are resolved by presented CSPs. Structural characteristics, synthetic approaches, enantioseparation ability and chiral recognation mechanism noticed on these CSPs will be discussed. |
