Ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse radio has large application in short-range wireless communications. It uses short pulses to achieve high data rates. One challenge in the design of UWB systems are pulse generators that meet the requirements provided by Federal Communications Commission. Various techniques are used in their synthesis. They include up conversion of low-pass pulses and direct synthesis of bandpass pulses. The latter approach implements so-called pulse shaper. The quality of pulse generators is measured by spectral efficiency of generated pulses in singleaccess UWB impulse radio systems and with mutual orthogonality of generated pulses in multi- access systems. In the UWB impulse radio receivers, the acquisition is a bottleneck. However, compressive sensing technique is established as a good approach to improve the signal acquisition and channel estimation. Here, summary of analog pulse-shaper design and background of different UWB receivers that use compressive acquisition are presented. |
