The polyester fabric made of poly(ethylene-terphthalate), is not comfortable due to low water absorbency. Therefore, surface modification such are aminolysis, hydrolysis and zeolite treatment are necessary for better comfort and other properties. The use of ethylenediamine (EDA) for short time in ambient conditions results in creation of both amine and carboxylic acid functional groups on the polyester fiber surface, not only carboxylic acid functional groups as in alkaline hydrolysis. The presence of two functional groups provides possibility for better finishing effects. The present paper shows results of the implementation on EDA modified PET better UV and IR protection. It is well known that UV protection depends on reflection, absorption and transmission of UV radiation, as well as the fiber and fabric properties, and wet process treatments e.g. dyeing, optical brightening etc. It is to persume thatthe same phenomenon will be observed on IR radiation. Therefore, the modification of PET fabric by EDA and natural zeolite nanoparticles was investigated by FTIR-ATR Fourier Transform Infrared - Attenuated Total Reflectance for IR transmission determination. The UV protection was determined using transmission spectrophotometer Cary 50 (Varian). |
