CAREER CHOICE MOTIVATIONS OF DENTAL MEDICINE AND DENTAL HYGIENE STUDENTS’ AT FACULTY OF DENTAL MEDICINE AND HEALTH OSIJEK

Popis: Study aim: The aim of the study, which is being developed among students of dental medicine and dental hygiene at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek, is to examination key motives in choosing a future career. Subjects and Methods: Students of the 3rd and 4th year of the study of Dental Medicine and students of the 2nd and 3rd year of the study of Dental Hygiene of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek participated in the research. The survey was conducted during May 2020. For research purposes a questionnaire with a total of 14 questions was created. Results: 73 students from the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek participated in the research. Choosing this study programme was the first choice for most students. As the biggest motivating factors for choosing a career, students singled out: helping people, the opinion that that profession is well paid and that is easy to find a job after the graduation. Study shows no significant differences in the results. Statistically, the most significant differences appear to be in relation to gender. Almost all students, after graduation, plan to work in the profession. Conclusion: Most students consider this profession to be prestigious in society. They think that they will easily find a job with this career and be well paid for it. In addition, they consider helping other people as the biggest motivating factor. The decision to choose this study was made independently without the influence of parents or the environment. They are satisfied with the choice of profession and plan to work in the profession after graduation. Keywords: dental, medicine ; dental, hygiene ; students ; motivation ; attitudes.
