The aim of this presentation was to explore a possibility to discuss some of the points at which considerations the early history of social medicine, public health and the Schools of Public Health might contribute in exploring the present and future role of those institutions.Suggested conclusions, reflections and opinions are primarily based upon the author's (Biserka Belicza)study of personal records and publications of Andrija Štampar, compared with data obtained from the secondary sources and literature, related to the history of public health, social hygiene, social medicine, preventive medicine, national and international health care reforms and health care initiatives in th first decades of the 20th ct. in USA and Europe, including-predominatly in that time Craoatia and Yugoslavia. |
