Popis: The paper monitors body weight and shank widths of roosters and capons of black and red strain Sasso hybrids from two suppliers of chickens (Sisak and Sesvete) fed GMO FREE feed with the addition of clay in food. The roosters and capons were kept separately, floor-raised in the poultry practicum of the Križevci College of Agriculture with access to a 27 m2 of fenced outside area. The aim of the study was to determine the influence of different genetic sources of chickens (Sisak, Sesvete), caponization of roosters, age of roosters and capons, and strains (black and red) of Sasso hybrids on the width of the shank. It has been observed that the higher widths of the shank had the black and red strain of Sasso hybrids of roosters (M=8, 1≥7, 6 mm) and capons (M=12, 9≥12, 6 mm) of the genetic source of suppliers from Sisak compared to the suppliers from Sesvete. Black and red strain roosters of the Sasso hybrid of the Sesvete supplier genetic source had greater shank than that of the Sisak supplier (M=13, 1≥12, 9 mm). Both strains of Sasso hybrids from both genetic sources had a greater shank width in roosters (M=13, 04≥12, 7 mm) than in capons. At the end of fattening, the black strain of Sasso hybrid capons achieved a higher fattening mass than the roosters of the same strain, while the red strain of the Sasso hybrid yielded the same fattening mass in both roosters and capons originating from Sisak genetic material. Roosters of both strains originating from a genetic source of suppliers from Sesvete had a higher output fattening mass compared to capons. The capons of both strains of Sasso hybrids from Sisak had higher output fattening masses (M=3415, 8≥3226, 0 g) than the output fattening masses of capons of both strains from Sesvete, while for the roosters the result was opposite (3470, 7≥3469, 2 g). No statistically significant difference was found at the P≤0.05 level between the width of the shank and the body mass of either the capons or the roosters of both strains and from both genetic sources. A statistically significant difference at the P≤0.05 level was determined for the width of the shank between the roosters and capons of the red strain of the Sasso hybrid originating from a genetic source from the supplier from Sisak.
