Popis: We have introduced the ultrasonically marked leads in 1987 in order to solve the problem of ultrasonic guiding of catheterisation procedures in medicine. The problem arises from the fact that ultrasound echographs collects data in planes so that a flexible device can hardly be uniquely localised without such a particular means. The elementary design included a tubiform piezoelectric transducer whose directivity could be changed by changing the length of the tube, but the sensitivity change was incidental. The new design described in this paper solves the directivity problem, while maintaining sensitivity in that an acoustic lens modifies the directivity properties of the marker transducer.
