Popis: Contemporary schools are undergoing dynamic changes. The development of the new learning methods in the classroom condition new needs faced by pupils and teachers in relation to the classroom equipment and work space, most frequently composed of a desk and a chair. School furniture needs to accommodate uninterrupted work in a classroom, and this presents an important problem from the design viewpoint where there is an interdisciplinary combination of medical, pedagogical, orthopedic, ergonomic, design and construction- related, technical and technological, environmental, economic and many other factors. This paper presents new approaches in designing contemporary school furniture based on the findings and results of the scientific study. The survey presented in this paper was conducted by the method of observation and photographing, whereas different movements of the surveyed participants/pupils were recorded while they were working in the classroom. Data confirming that the existing school furniture in the classroom does not correspond with the pupils’ and teachers’ needs were obtained leading to a conclusion that there is an urgent need for a new approach in designing the classroom work space. Various demands and design parameters have been defined with the aim of developing new products. New approaches in designing new school furniture and, thus, a new environment make the basis for designing a new educational environment based on new findings and contemporary concepts.
