This paper gives an overview of the machining technology applied in impeller production. The complex geometry of the impeller (thin walls combined with interrupt cutting condition) and the tolerance demands make this production challenging. Raw material was casted duplex steel X2CrNiMoN 26 7 4 (W.Nr. 1.4469) with high content of Mo. During the casting process of duplex steel it is necessary to ensure high purity of melts, as well as a small scattering of alloying elements. The problem facing this production was impurity (sand) on the impeller blades. Before the machining, the impurity has to be removed by milling or grinding and after that filled with welding technology. TIG process, with wire thickness of Φ=2.4mm was performed. Before welding it is necessary preheat the material up to 120-150 ˚C. |
