Popis: Macrolides have been reported to reduce phagocytosis, neutrophil chemotaxis, and the relise of proinflammatory cytokines (Il-1 and TNFa). An animal model was designet to evaluate the effect of erythromycin (Ery) in rats upon LPS induced inflammation. Cytokines, IL-6 and IFN gamma and acute phase proteins, CRP, alpha2 macroglobulin and albumins were chosen as markers and monitored 48 hours. A 3.2 mg/kg dose of LPS resulted in pronouced inflammatory symptoms and was used in the following experiments. Animals treated with Ery showed 2-fold lower concentrations of IL-6 and IFN gamma. Albumins, CRP and alpha 2 macroglobuline were decreased.
