In this study, phosphate coating was reinforced with a green inhibitor to obtain a significant anti-corrosion system on the steel coupons. Corrosion inhibitors of green olive leaf extract with 20 % of the active component of oleuropein were added to phosphate bath. Here, we report the influence of different concentration of the green olive leaf extract on carbon steel surface. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of this environmentally friendly inhibitor in the phosphate coating system. In previous studies, this plant extract showed good anti-corrosion properties in chloride carbonate solution saturated with CO2 at different temperatures. Present study characterizes four different olive leaf extract concentrations in phosphate baths: 2 g/l, 4 g/l, 6 g/l and 8 g/l. The corrosion resistance of coating on the Fe-Mn alloy in 3.5 % NaCl solution was analyzed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization. The surface morphology of protective film of green inhibitor was examined by stereo microscope model Leica MZ75. It has been observed that phosphate coat modified with 4 g/l of olive leaf extract shown better performance than the other concentration. Potentiodynamic polarization showed the mixed nature of extract as a corrosion inhibitor. |
