Zooarchaeology is a quite new multidisciplinary science, which integrate knowledge from biology, veterinary, archaeology and great number of other scientific fields. It involves the identification, analysis and biological as well as social interpretation of animal remains recovered from archaeological sites (Bartosiewicz, 1998). Determination of skeletal position and distribution upon taxonomic category are the main goals of that science. Answers on that question can tell us many about hunting, process of domestication and the way of life in the past societies. During research animal bone collection from Vučedol site (Republic of Croatia), Baden culture we pointed out differences between metacarpal bones of Bos primigenius Boj. and Bos taurus L. Based on Bököny (1988) and Rowley-Conway (1995), from 1502 animal bone remains we determinate 10 metacarpal bones from Bos sp.. Six of them originate from Bos taurus L., two from Bos primigenius Boj. |
