Popis: In our research, the effect of collagen on artificially exposed pulp tissue was studied. Experiments were carried on 6 mongrel dogs of approximately 20 kg weight. The dogs were anaesthetized and teeth were isolated with rubber dam. In all animals, class V buccal cavities were prepared on two maxillary and two mandibular incisors. The pulp chamber was exposed. A bioresorbable collagen membrane, Bio-Gide (Geistlich Sohne, Wolhusen, Switzerland) was placed in the first group of teeth, in the second group of teeth the pulp was covered with a sterile teflon disc. In the control group cavities were closed only with Ketac-Silver cement (Espe, Seefeld, Germany). The cavities in the first two groups of teeth were also closed with Ketac-Silver cement. After 6 weeks, the teeth were extracted and histologically examined. The histological findings of the teeth treated only with Ketac-Silver showed complete necrosis of the tissue. Of the eight teeth treated with teflon discs, two showed complete necrosis, while the other six showed partial loss of structure. On the teeth treated with collagen bioresorbable membranes the pulp tissue preserved its vitality, with preservation of the morphology of all histological structures. Particularly noticeable was a good blood supply in the pulp, with an increased number of blood vessels. The formation of a reparative bridge was not noticed in any tooth.
