Tortricidae (leafrollers) is one of the largest families, but only few species are of great economical importance in horticulture. Cydia pomonella has been known as key pest of Croatian apple orchards. The number of treatments against this pest goes over six per year. All treatments with insecticides in Croatian apple orchards are focused on this pest. Recently, a complex of Tortricidae species have attacked apples in Croatian orchards. During the last years, damage from tortricid pests has increased. The monitoring of eight species of Tortricidae was carried out in apple orchards in the northwestern region of Croatia. Csalomon pheromone traps were used for monitoring. The number of caught moths was inspected once per week. Several year monitoring of the Tortricidae population showed a high population of Cydia pomonella. In addition, monitoring showed a serious increase of population of Hedia nubiferana, Pandemis heparana, Archips podana. We had the first catch of Grapholita lobarzewski two years ago. Damages on fruits were inspected at harvest. All trees were picked (about 1000 fruits from 8 to 10 trees) and inspected. Damage from leafrollers was higher than damage caused by codling moth. |
