The European Union uses financial instruments to enable the delivery of programmes and projects for heritage conservation and protection. Interreg III is the most comprehensive European Union initiative covering the period 2000 – 2006 and financed by the European Regional Development Found (ERDF). A lot of these projects are at the same time cultural tourism projects. This paper will bring up a short cross section of the most important global laws and regulations in the field of conservation and protection of cultural heritage and in the area of the valorization of cultural heritage. The focus will be on the projects which have been realized in Croatia through Interreg III and especially the international project „Villas, stately homes and castles“. |
