New technologies, information security and legislation pertinent to DNA databases in Croatia

Popis: In the information society and the environment of advanced information technologies more attention should be given to the higher level of legislation pertinent of DNA databases and information security in particular. As the key trends of the modern information society , globalization and digitalization, have become the backbone for the development of so called „information highway“, opening the complexity of privacy and information security, emphasizes the question of data protection in whole. Also, turnrefining technology development and the open global space is bringing the global trends in the local framework – in Croatia at this point. The goal of this study is to determine the impact of new technologies and rising trend of global „threats“ of information security on DNA databases and to establish the key for determinig and building the legislation pertinent to DNA databases – which is not present or even established in Croatia at this moment. From these facts arises the need of thorough research and analysis of protection of DNA databeses on security, in regarding disaster management control, and building the legal protection model to a higher level. Narrower field of papaer relates to the analysis of existing legislation on protection of personal data and security settings od DNA databeses in order to define the fundamental quality of proposed model. The study also includes an overview of related international standards, guidelines and recommendations of the countries of the European Union to ensure a higher level of personal data protection in the field of information security.
