In the framework of the national project for turning schools into community centers in Albania, school-to-family communication is one of the main tasks of the school, engaging parents in child education, but also to increasing social cohesion among interest groups within and outside the school. This study focuses on ways that public and private schools use to communicate with families through technology, not only to keep the families informed, but also to achieve the engagement of families in the education of their children. Qualitative methods were used for the purposes of this study. 24 semi structured interviews were conducted with parents of public and private secondary education schools and 4 semi-structured interviews with directors and 11 teachers. Labeling and coding techniques were used for data processing. Data analysis revealed that there are totally different ways of using technology to communicate and collaborate with parents between public and private schools. Private schools use digital platforms to achieve the purpose of information and cooperation. They manage to engage parents using specific ways and methods of technological interaction, while public schools remain trying to achieve parents’ information. According to teachers, directors and parents, the ways of technological interaction are linked to the socioeconomic status of the parents. |
