In this paper, Ivšić’s reflections on journalistic language, published in the magazine Hrvatski jezik (1938-1939), are shown in the contemporaneous, as well as the contemporary linguistic context, and it is determined to what extent they are contemporary today. Although many works about Ivšić have been published, especially on his dialectological and standardization activities, his contribution to defining the publicist style is not described in more details. When Ivšić is mentioned in the context of defining the publicist style, it refers to an important methodological step that marks the bringing Croatian linguistics closer to the European structural current. The aim of the paper is to broaden the knowledge about Ivšić’s linguistic work, and about his contribution to the contemporary norm in the context of the publicist functional style. |
