Canine hypothyroidism is one of the most often diagnosed endocrine disease in dogs characterized by a deficiency of the active thyroid hormones that have a negative impact on dog’s quality of life. The study of metabolic implications related to thyroid hormones can lead to the development of new biomarkers with clinical utility. In this study, we have analyzed 20 serum samples of dogs with hypothyroidism and compared them with 20 healthy dogs using non-target metabolomic techniques. With this approach, two new metabolites that change in serum of dogs with hypothyroidism have been detected. These metabolites are D-gluconic and L-isoleucine, both closely related to the development of complications and could be promising biomarkers of this disease. |
