The coronavirus pandemic influenced many aspects of everyday lives of citizens. It also influenced the way citizens perceive the success or failure of public institutions and political bodies and the way they dealt with the problem of such magnitude. This, in turn, influences the way citizens legitimize the political system and perceive the working of the democratic system of government. Hence, the aim of this paper is to show the levels of satisfaction with democracy among young people of the countries of Southeast Europe, including the Croatian youth. We focus on the levels of self-proclaimed level of political competence, how informed are they, what is the level of their trust in political and societal institutions, and the levels of satisfaction with economy to understand their levels of satisfaction with the democratic political regime and the democratic political process. This will allow us to posit arguments on the health of democracy in the post- Covid era and the challenges democratic institutions have in maintaining the trust among the young people. |
