Diagnostics of conditioning status of handball players is a crucial precondition of successful planning, programming, and monitoring of the sport preparation process, the purpose of which is the ultimate development of motor and functional abilities in the function of best performance and high sports achievements (Milanović et al., 1997). Out of the total sample of the 16 Croatian national handball team seniors (their test scores were sources for the model values), the results of two were specially observed for the sake of this study - player X, a back court player, and player Y, a wing. Conditioning status was measured by the battery consisting of 15 tests (5 anthropometric and 10 motor-functional tests), which describe best plaers' abilities and characteristics relevant for handball performance. The test results achieved by national team or internationally successful team members may be used as model values. X player scored significantly poorer than the model values in indicators of: explosive power of a jump type (SDM and SAR), trunk strength endurance of a dynamic type (TRB), absolute arm and shoulder strength (BP), and speed power of a sprinting type (30MVS). The Y player showed significant deficits in explosive power of a ballistic (BL) and jump type (SDM), as well as in absolute arm and shoulder strength (BP). It could be concluded on the basis of the obtained results that elite handball players achieve very high scores in the tests of physical conditioning fitness. The following training process, conducted in clubs and during preparations of the national team, "attacked" particularly the weak conditioning points of Croatian handball players. |
