Popis: The development and application of environmentally friendly materials have led to an increasing presence of biodegradable materials in graphic technology. The subject of this research was the application of biodegradable primers - polycaprolactone and polylactic acid - in screen printing technique on cardboard printing substrate. The aim of the research was to determine the changes of specific surface and mechanical properties of primed and printed substrates in relation to the unprimed prints, using two screen rulings of the mesh and two different types of water-based printing inks. Measurements of thickness and roughness of the printed ink layers were performed, as well as the tensile strength and bending stiffness measurements on unprimed and primed samples. 3D microscopy provided insight into the topography of the printed surfaces. Results of the research pointed to the improvement of printing substrate’s mechanical properties after the application of primers, as well as to the impaired substrate’s mechanical properties after the application of water-based printing inks. The formation of printed ink layers proved to be dependent on the type of the used primer. Results of this research contributed to the possibility of application of biodegradable materials in combination with water - based inks in screen printing technique.
