International speleological expeditions to Tanzania, Iran, Lebanon and Cyprus, under the patronage of the UIS in the last fifteen years, resulted in expanding knowledge of speleological techniques, increasing number of speleologists, visibility of some lesser‐known speleologically attractive destinations, etc. So far, speleologists from Lebanon, Belgium, Croatia, France, Switzerland, Iran, Cyprus and Turkey have participated in such expeditions. By analyzing the results of previous training expeditions, one should be satisfied because the new speleological activity was launched and some new speleological societies and / or alliances, for example in Iran and Cyprus were established. In addition to getting to know the basic speleological techniques and equipment, the participants were educated in speleophotography and topographic surveying of caves. International instructors on these expeditions also demonstrated the basics of speleological self‐rescue techniques. Participants of these programs (trainers and participants) evaluated them as useful and successful so the practice of international educational expeditions will continue. |
