Popis: Daily active travel (AT) to/from school can be an important and constant source of physical activity (PA) of children and adolescents, necessary for their overall development and health preservation. The purpose of this article is to find out wheter the AT to/from school influences the rise of PA. Systematic examination of electronic databases such as MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Science Direct and Springerlink helped us find relevant articles fo which 18 were included in our review. 14 out of 18 studies reports that children and adolescents who practice TA accumulate more PA compared to those who are driven and 8 studies reported a positive correlation between AT and moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Nevertheless we believe that more longitudinal studies would be necessary to have a deeper insight into the link between AT and PA. Establishing uniformed criteria for monitoring AT and PA would contribute to comparability of the results of studies and would at the same time enable the development of appropriate system solutions that would encourage the daily practice of AT among children and adolescents, which would indirectly affect their health and well-being.
