With accelerated development of road transport and construction of road infrastructure in the Republic of Croatia, road users are enabled to develop higher speed and shorter travel time. However, a consequence of this development is the increasing number of traffic accidents. In order to influence the reduction of traffic accidents an attempt was made to influence the drivers with the introduction of restrictive legislation, especially for younger drivers, and national programs for traffic safety were periodically brought up. However, it was not enough to decrease the number of deaths in traffic accidents to the level of the European Union. In order to reach the level of European Union countries for traffic safety in the Republic of Croatia it is necessary to introduce new models to monitor drivers. In this paper we analyzed the possibility of the use of Event Data Recorder device and its application in developed countries. Based on these data and statistical indicators of traffic safety in the Republic of Croatia, an analysis was made on developmental potential of such devices in the Republic of Croatia and how would implementation of such device impact on traffic safety in Croatia. |
