Popis: One of the goals in winter wheat selection in Croatia is creation of new cultivars that could be grown with lower sowing rate. These cultivars should have higher yield and better quality than standard cultivars. In consequence, with lower investment in sowing we could achieve high yield and have more rentable production. With that aim, we started research work at four winter wheat breeding lines (OSK 15, OSK 35, OSK 76 and OSK 55) and standard cultivar Žitarka. Field investigation was conducted in five replications with three sowing rates (400 seeds/m2, 500 seeds/m2, 600 seed/m2). We measured ear characteristic (ear length, number of spikelets per ear) and kernel yield. Results of the research so far are showing possibility of high yield winter wheat production with lowest investigated sowing rate.
