Popis: This paper investigates the abrasive and erosive wear of TiN/TiCN and TiN/Ti-B-N multilayers deposited on the quenched and tempered K390 MC tool steel for cold work. The multilayer coatings were produced by the pulsed direct current (DC) plasma-assisted chemical-vapour deposition (PACVD) in an industrial hot wall furnace. Adhesion of the multilayers is determined by the Rockwell-C indentation test. Abrasive wear resistance tests were carried out using the "Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel” method. Erosion resistance tests of the base material and of the PACVD coatings were carried out by exposing test samples to impact erosion using fine sand particles and by determining the mass loss after 60 minutes of wear. Worn surfaces were analysed by a scanning electron microscope. The results show an increased wear resistance of the TiN/Ti-B-N multilayer coating with respect to the TiN/TiCN multilayer coating and the non-coated steel K390 MC (in the quenched and tempered condition).
