Today, when media are considered limitless (Mikić, 2015) and omnipresent, it is necessary to focus on their potential in teaching. Therefore, the objective of the present research was to examine the usage of new media in teaching and learning English as a foreign language (EFL). For the purpose of the present research two questionnaires were designed: one for EFL teachers, and the other one for the pupils. Research sample consisted of 95 participants: 22 pre-service and in-service EFL teachers (aged 23-37) and 73 primary school pupils (aged 7-15). The obtained results indicated some discrepancy between pupils’ and teachers' views of media usage, i.e. children, unlike teachers, did not think that new media are being used much in EFL classrooms. There were also slight differences between the opinions expressed by pre-service and in-service teachers regarding this issue. Therefore, since in this sample new media do not seem to have been used to their full potential, their greater use is proposed to make learning more challenging and appealing to the learners, especially nowadays when it is more than ever difficult to motivate children and maintain their motivation for any school subject, and frequently EFL is no exception. |
