Popis: With the aim of eliminating undesirable phenomena arising from the direct incorporation of corrosion inhibitors into coatings, self- healing composite system in which the inhibitor is first encapsulated and then dispersed into the coating was proposed. The study investigated the stability of a self-healing composite coating in which two types of encapsulated inhibitors (8- hydroxyquinoline and 1-hydroxybenzotriazole) were dispersed. The capsules were dispersed within a water-borne epoxy coating at different concentrations, and then applied to the samples of lowcarbon steel. Samples were exposed to salt and humidity chamber and continuously immersed in 3.5% NaCl solution. The stability rating of the coating was carried out with respect to the substrate corrosion, flaking and blistering according to ISO 4628 and adhesion test according to ISO 4624 and ISO 2409. Using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, the change in coating resistance was determined. The results show that successful active protection has been achieved by releasing corrosion inhibitors from the capsules due to the weakening of the coating barrier properties in the aggressive test environment.
