The manufacturing of basic metals and metal products has a long tradition in Croatia, particularly, in Sisak. Since Halstatt period onwards today's Sisak has always, in all historic periods, been closely connected with the production of iron and iron products as its most important manufacture branch. Metallurgy in the territory of today's Sisak and Banovina, as a region of Sisak-Moslavina County, was developed from Vučedol as well as Celtic and Roman culture. In connection with the existing reconstruction of the stone blast furnace in Bešlinac, a place in Banovina that is the region of Sisak-Moslavina County, in this paper, except the description and the contents of the furnace reconstruction is also given a historical overview of the development of iron metallurgy in this area as well as the evolution of charcoal blast furnaces on European soil. |
