SUMMARY The essay is about interrelations between politics or social condition/ system and Croatian literature in the twentieth century. It actually deals with the plays of the Croatian playwrights which take place in (Croatian) Mediterranean cultural and geographic space and have religious, Christian contents. Through the analysis of eight plays since the period of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes over FNR and SFR Yugoslavia and „Croatian Spring“ until the Homeland War and the independent Republic of Croatia, based on two typologies (typology of applied intertextuality methods in Croatian drama of the second half of the twentieth century and the typology of the plays with Biblical and religious elements), we have come to the conclusions that zeitgeist and sociopolitical ideas reflect themselves in mentioned plays, sometimes in affirmative, and sometimes in refuting manner ; that the ideas expressed in some plays can be ahead of their time, in a certain way they can anticipate/ feel the future social movements and changes ; that plays can have and do have (in different degrees) certain influence on society (they can initiate or speed up / slow down social and political processes), an influence which was - if disliked by the governing political elite - sanctioned in a different manner. |
