Background: although pharmacists' new roles and pharmaceutical care has been promoted in Croatia during the last two decades, community pharmacists still mainly have traditional role of drug supply, drug dispensing and compounding medicines. This work has used General Level Framework (GLF)1, 2 as educational intervention in order to develop community pharmacists competencies and improve pharmaceutical care. Setting: This work addresses current issues of pharmaceutical care and pharmacists' competences needed for improvement of pharmacists' interventions in community settings. Methods: GLF was translated and adapted for Croatian setting and was checked for content validity. Expert panel method was used to validate the framework. Following, the researchers evaluated staff working in 38 community pharmacies using the adapted version of GLF. The data was analyzed using SPSS. Results: The process of adaptation of GLF for Croatian setting, results from expert panel discussion, and experience with GLF in practice will be presented. 100 pharmacists and 100 pharmacy technicians in 38 pharmacies around Croatia were evaluated using GLF. Conclusion: GLF was used in order to evaluate current competencies in patient care of community pharmacists and to enable them to develop further as they were exposed to the framework. Future work will look for pharmacists’ improvement after 6 months. 1. Mills E, Farmer D, Bates I, Davies JG, , Webb D, & mc Robbie D 2005.
