Popis: Background and aim: The neuronal death in acute ischemic stroke has been attributed to necrosis. Recent cerebral ischemia studies in experimental animal models have indicated that apoptosis (programmed cell death) might contribute to neuronal death. The aim of this study was to analyse the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) level of soluble (s)Fas/APO-1 (apoptosis suppressing protein) in acute ischemic stroke patients. Methods: The five patients (mean age 69± ; 6 years) with first acute ischemic stroke verified by clinical examination and CT scan were included in the study. Patients with history of autoimmune and malignant disease, congestive heart failure and sever infections were included. The control group consisted of four patients with other neurological disorders (cephalea, vertigo). Soluble Fas/APO-1 level in the CSF was determinated by ELISA (Chemicon) on day 3 and day 21 after disease onset. The results were presented by means ± ; SD. Statistical analysis was performed by the Student T-test. The value of p
