This paper investigates the tribological and corrosion properties of the direct current plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition TiN/TiCN coating applied to substrate of hardened and tempered tool steel for cold work grade X153CrMoV12. The developed coating is composed from a TiN sublayer and TiN/TiCN gradient layer with the final TiCN layer. The base coating properties have been characterized by examination of the surface roughness, chemical composition, thickness, adhesion and hardness. Wear resistance of the coating was tested by abrasion and erosion method. Corrosion resistance of the coating was determined using electrochemical polarization in aqueous 3.5% NaCl. Wear and corrosion resistance of the coating were compared with the same properties of the non-coated substrate. After laboratory tests, newly developed gradient multilayer TiCN coating was successfully applied on cold forming tools and moulds for plastic industry. |
