Popis: Nowadays, the correlation between educational programmes at the tertiary level of education and the labour market is particularly significant. The knowledge and skills acquired at college are important not only in finding, but also in keeping a job, and the importance of lifelong learning, especially the acquisition of foreign languages, is crucial. Therefore, the authors of this paper try to asses to what extent foreign (primarily English) language courses achieve these objectives, based on the perspective of part-time students of Business Economics and Finance, Cultural Management and Office Management within the Professional Study of Business and Management at the University of Applied Sciences Baltazar Zaprešić and its branch campus in Biograd na Moru. The survey was conducted during the academic year of 2014 / 2015 and measured the students’ attitudes towards language learning, foreign language competencies they find most useful in their jobs, the applicability of learning outcomes outlined in the syllabus and the adjustment of their foreign language competencies with the actual needs of the labour market. In addition to shedding some light on the relevance of the syllabus for reaching business and/or academic goals, the analysis of the conducted survey has provided the authors of the le ways of improving and upgrading the programme in order to enable students to become more competitive on the labour market.
