The main objective of the investigation was to evaluate the deterioration of four fibre mortars, using ultrasonic pulse velocity, weight change, strength and microstructural studies. The laboratory mortars comprised polypropylene or polyacrylonitrile fibres (1.1-1.2 % by volume). They were subjected to 100 freeze thaw cycles and evaluated for frost damage by several different methods. All four mortars seemed to perform well. However, more cycles would have been needed to explain the deterioration mechanisms involved in frost attack on polymer fibre reinforced mortars. |
