Popis: Although the major objective in the deposition of cladding on the inner surface of an LWR pressure vessel is to prevent the corrosion of the base material, the presence of cladding leads to the consideration of its role in the mechanical analysis of the integrity of the vessel. This role is related to various aspects like: • favourable thermal exchange barrier • creation of cracks (most likely being the under-clad-cracks (UCC) representing the covered weld defects or defects created during clad deposit; or defects in the cladding itself whose probability as well as severity is smaller than the UCC). • behaviour of an UCC • behaviour of a surface crack. One can therefore see that the presence of cladding could lead to favourable as well as unfavourable situations. During the course of this project, information was collected concerning the treatment of cladding aspects along with the major material properties, in various European countries. Finally, the potential role of cladding has been evaluated from the point of view of the RPV safety analyses.
