In current business environments it is necessary to target for rapid and radical business innovations. This is not straightforward for large, traditional technology companies that need to maintain their current businesses and simultaneously develop new business ideas. Continuous innovation, experimentation and radical transparency of information are proposed as solutions. Transparency has been identified as a requirement for continuous innovation but its effects to process performance are still unclear. In this paper we present results from an industrial case, where research observations were conducted while a large, technology driven company working in B2B environment targeted for an improved number of radically new business ideas with faster time-to-market and balanced fit for company's business targets. The company tackled the challenge by adopting an experimental innovation approach which increased transparency of ideas and the innovation process for different stakeholders to participate in the process. Further, we describe how transparency was implemented in the process, and how the innovation practices performed in the company. The initial results indicate improved innovation performance through the experimental innovation approach and transparency of ideas supported by an in-house Ideas Tool. |
