Abstrakt: The RLG Conspectus, although originally developed as a vehicle for cooperative collection development, may have its greatest utility at the local level for describing collections and for fashioning collection development policy statements. Even for this use, the Conspectus presents difficulties. With its codes for describing collection levels and the seemingly subjective determination of those levels, the results from the Conspectus may be unintelligible to university administrators. What is required is a translation of Conspectus findings into a language more readily understood by administrators. At Emory University, findings from Conspectus worksheets and narratives were translated into bar graph charts, allowing for a visual presentation of current and desired collecting levels. The charts were representative, including only selected lines from worksheets. The result was an executive summary of less than fifty pages created from more than a thousand pages of worksheets and text.
