Pressure-based and artificial compressibility methods for calculating three-dimensional, steady, incompressible viscous flows are compared in this work. Each method is applied to the prediction of three-dimensional, laminar flows in strongly curved ducts of square and circular cross sections. Numerical predictions from each method are compared with available experimental data and previously reported predictions using a multigrid numerical method. The accuracy, grid independence, convergence behavior, and computational efficiency of each method are critically examined. Hence, some of the merits and demerits of each method are revealed in this study. |
