The infrared spectrum of theX2Π state of CBr from 680 to 760 cm−1has been measured using diode laser absorption spectroscopy. This is the first observation of a vibrational spectrum of the radical in the gas phase. The radicals were produced by 193 nm excimer laser photolysis of bromoform. Transitions belonging to the ν = 1 ← 0, 2 ← 1, 3 ← 2, and 4 ← 3 bands of both isotopomers, C79Br and C81Br, have been identified. Spectroscopic parameters were obtained from a least-squares fit to an effective Hamiltonian where the transition frequencies of both isotopomers were fitted simultaneously. The results were used to obtain a Rydberg–Klein–Rees potential. |
