The merits and applicability of CITES to the management of mahogany (Swietenia macrophyllaKing) are assessed. Emphasis is placed on the necessity for trade regulation in order to encourage the sustainable management ofS. macrophylla, including the protection of adequate population and genetic resources throughout its range. |
