Surgicel is an absorbable sterile mesh composed of oxidized cellulose used to control capillary or venous bleeding. Although the manufacturer recommends its removal after hemostasis is achieved, in clinical practice it is usually left in situ to reabsorb spontaneously, usually with no untoward effect. We report the first case of foreign body reaction (gossypiboma) masking as recurrent malignancy discovered 13 months post-cytoreductive surgery for ovarian carcinoma. |
