Abstrakt: A distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) single-frequency fiber laser (SFFL) operating at 1500 nm in the S-band is demonstrated experimentally, based on 1-cm-long heavily Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped phosphate fiber (EYPF). By optimizing the length of the gain fiber and the parameters of fiber grating, a stable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) laser with a maximum output power of 31.8 mW is obtained. The slope efficiency relative to the absorption pump power is about 11.39%. Moreover, the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) around 1535 nm is well suppressed, and the optical signal-to-noise ratio is up to 68 dB. Additionally, the measured relative intensity noise of the SFFL is less than −140 dB/Hz at frequencies of over 7 MHz, and the linewidth is about 5.4 kHz. To our best knowledge, this is the first demonstration of the DBR Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped SFFL operating in the S-band and is currently the highest output power directly generated from a single-frequency cavity in this band. It is expected to be valuable in these scenarios like expanding optical communication band.
