In the evolving paradigm of proteomics research, numerous novel proteins in living beings have been identified but understanding the existence of proteins alone does not provide much insight into their respective biological processes. To understand the related phenomenon in detail, a term called protein–protein interaction (PPI) came into light. Considering its significant involvement in numerous biological processes and associated signalling pathways, a thorough elucidation of protein–protein interactions is required. In the current review, we present a complete overview of how proteins do interact with each other beginning from historical perspective and exploring the recent high throughput technologies that are being utilized to detect various PPIs. Further, we have also mentioned about the defects linked with protein–protein interactions. This review thereby provides a comprehensive study on PPIs along with various detection techniques which can thereby turn out be a promising approach in the area of proteomics research. |
